Ten Things to Do on Father’s Day

Father’s Day is this Sunday! Celebrate this great man with all the things he loves to do on the Central Coast. And boy, doesn’t he deserve it… Check out our list of the ten top things to do with Dad.

1. Serve Dad his fave breakfast, lunch, or picnic

Start out Father’s Day with a spread of his favorite foods! He won’t care whether you start the day cooking bacon and eggs yourself, taking him out for a bucket of crab legs, or even packing a picnic with Double-Doubles from In-n-Out. It’s the thought – and the deliciousness – that counts.

2. Lawn games

Get competitive in your own backyard by spending an afternoon playing outdoor games with the family, and don’t forget to bring your Olympic spirit! Turn your backyard into sports complex with cornhole, croquet, lawn bowling, horseshoes and anything else you have. Badminton, anyone? At Rice Ranch, you can also reserve spots at the Summit Club to play Bocce or Pickleball.

3. Water Time

Spend some quality time with Dad on the water. It’s easy with our world-class beaches near Rice Ranch! Rent a kayak, take a boat tour or grab a surfboard and spend the day in the sun. At the Summit Club, hit the pool and enjoy relaxing with Dad.

4. Stay in and Watch TV

What are you dad’s favorite flicks? No doubt he knows your favorite movies and shows, so here’s a chance to listen and learn, by watching some of his favorites from days gone by. Or maybe you share a love of Star Wars or documentaries. You can find a cache of great content to watch together, and make a day or night of it.

5. Dad Needs His Wine

For the dad who loves wine, the perfect treat is finding some of his favorites. Find out what grape or blend he likes best, then buy some similar wines from around the world. You can even put the wines in brown bags and do a blind wine-tasting to guess where they’re from. Just add a cheese and charcuterie board to cleanse the palate and enhance the flavors. Or, hit the Santa Maria Valley Wine Trail.

6. Fire up the Grill

A traditional way to celebrate Father’s Day is at the grill. Fire it up and do all the work, so Dad can relax. If he won’t let you man the grill yourself, be his assistant for the day and learn his way of grilling. On the Central Coast, that usually means Santa Maria BBQ, so get your tri-tip seasoned and the grill cranked down. Read here for Santa Maria BBQ tips and traditions.

7. Hit the Golf Course

For some Dads, golf is at the top of his wish list for the day. There are There are 10 Public Golf Courses within 20 Miles of Rice Ranch that offer year-round play, with scenic views ranging from the mountains to the ocean. So grab your clubs (or be his caddy for the day) at one of these golf courses near Orcutt.

8. Hiking/Biking

Right around the Rice Ranch community are 580 acres of open space, containing lots of hiking and biking trails, open fields and the Orcutt Community Park. You can find easy hikes for a quick break, flat hikes and trails with lush scenery like by rivers or with views of the ocean. Many trails are good for bikes, and pets, too. Find more info here.
